Ants are among the most prevalent pests in households, but can also invade restaurants, hospitals, offices, warehouses, and other buildings where they can find food and water and are particularly attracted to sweet substances such as sugar or honey. Although ants are not inherently of public health concern, they may walk across unclean or contaminated areas during their foraging. When one foraging worker ant successfully locates a food source, it is able to communicate this information to its co-workers which can lead to vast numbers of worker ants invading and contaminating surfaces and foods.
